'Thinking about the morning class is over; my stomach starts to say I'm hungry. What do I eat today? I had better go to the closest student cafeteria. What? Today's menu is also a pork cutlet? I'm sick of eating the same menu every day.' Don't you start complaining before eating lunch at student cafeteria like this? Likewise, about that in Dankook University, we may agree that it is the closest and cheap but in case of diversity and taste, you guys might say uh-uh. (Especially, about an article titled 'Give Us Various Menu' in issue 303 of The Dankook Herald (DKH) which was published on November 30, 2010, problems in the student cafeteria of Cheonan campus have not been fixed yet.) Then what about the other universities? Do they look the same like us? or such a new world? To solve these curiosities, DKH went to three places at three other universities to have meals. After that, we scored five ¡Ú for a perfect score and separated five parts(taste, quantity, cost, cleanliness, diversity). I will show you the vivid moments while touring at college cafeterias right now.

Yonsei University - the place where one can eat food in the mood of gorgeousness
The college cafeterias are in the first basement level in the Student's Union Building. The most conspicuousness was its inner part. It felt good not only because of the atmosphere like being in the cafe shedding sunshine through the window but because of the gorgeous table and inner light. The menu was also good even though it was not that special. Because the food was well seasoned with salt, it was good and it made me feel like eating in a famous Korean restaurant. Side dishes Kkakdugi and sesame leaf tasted like eating in my house and that was so delicious. (Taste ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) 'Sundae stew' was abundant in an earthen bowl. The ingredients, Kimchi and rice, was quite filling that I was enough to be full at that time. (Quantity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) It was good that the quantity of a side dish was suitable for me so I didn't have to leave the leftovers. The price of a meal was 3,200 won and it was not that expensive but proper. (Cost ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) Moreover, foods based on flour and noodles were about 2,000~3,000 won and it was proper. The condition of sanitation in the kitchen was normal. It's because everyone was wearing kitchenware. And the inner part of the kitchen was so clean that I was impressed with its hygienic condition. (Cleanliness ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) The menus were not that various. (Diversity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) However, the menus were well divided into the same category (noodles, Korean food, and food based on flour) was good for me to choose efficiently, I think.

Korea University - The place we can choose various side dishes whatever we want
I searched the Student Union Building by using the guide-map because of its wide area. I went to the student restaurant which is located in the 1st basement level in the Student Union Building. When I first got there, the interior was just ordinary and large like common restaurants. Cleanliness was ordinary too. Not easy to clean because of the large place was probably the reason. (Cleanliness ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) After seeing the interior, I looked for the counter to buy a meal ticket. However, after looking around the students who are getting meals, I realized it was a stupid behavior. Seeing again, at first, students choose side dishes like rice, soup, dish, fruit and  milk product whatever they want. And second, they put them onto their own tray. And finally they pay the total that they chose. Additionally, there are so much various side dishes; therefore, we can choose it so widely. (Diversity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) I chose white rice (550 won), Kimchi (250 won), egg soup (150 won), cutlet of fried dumplings (900 won), boiled chickens and potatoes (900 won), a banana (300 won) and a yogurt (100 won). And the total cost is 3,150 won. It is not that expensive even though I chose what I wanted to eat and extra desserts. (Cost ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) After paying for the meal, I tasted what I chose. And just as I chose and expected, it was delicious and I was definitely satisfied at that time. (Taste ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) Also, even though I was really hungry, I ate enough to be full. Therefore, I can surely say the quantity was perfect. (Quantity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú)

Kyeong Hee University - the place which has a Food Court that you can choose various foods.
Through the main entrance, walking into the well made campus, we got to 'Woo Jung Won.' When we were about to enter the student cafeteria, students of Kyeong Hee University recommended us to go the dormitory cafeteria. There were lots of menus and food and they help students to be free from their hunger. Of the menu we ordered, 'A bowl of rice topped with beef teriyaki' was a little salty for me. The sauce was little bit strong and there was nothing special as we expected. (Taste ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) The price was much the same as Dankook University's, 3000~4000won. (Price ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) Kitchen workers wore kitchenware and the inside of the kitchen was clean. (Cleanliness ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) And the meal was so abundant that I was full from it. (Quantity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú) Various menus like Food Court and pleasure to choose in accordance with your appetite and mood! But the menus were so repetitious that it was a sorry part, I think. (Diversity ¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú¡Ú)

In conclusion, the other university's college cafeteria were different from ours in many respects. Food that one can eat in the atmosphere of neat and tidy in Yonsei University, system that one can variously choose the menu in accordance with  various side dishes in Korea University and various foods in the form of a Food Court in Kyeong Hee University. If DKU tries hard to make an effort to improve its student restaurant through learning from these other student restaurants, I'm sure Dankookians' satisfaction of student cafeteria will increase.
