¡ã Almost every day the student's cafeteria offers pork cutlet with changing thesource.

Lunch time, Do you have hard time because of too many delicious foods to
choose? If you do, you need to go to The Dankook University(DKU) in Cheonan
campus. It is the best place where you can choose the menu easily. Because there are only three kinds of choices on the menu, so you don’t need to worry.
The Dankook Herald(DKH) surveyed Cheonan campus’s students for hearing
their opinion. 23 students had answered I’m satisfied with student’s cafeteria.’
The biggest reason for satisfaction was the low price. In contrast, 77 students
who had answered ‘I’m not satisfied with student’s cafeteria.’ pointed out the
‘Limited menu’ as the cafeteria’s problem.

And then, the following answer was ‘The food was not good enough for the
price asked.’ No matter how inexpensive it was to buy, the hope for delicious food was a matter of course. Student’s complaints were ‘Limited menu,’ ‘Raise the
food’s quality rather than lower the price,’ ‘Raise the food’s quality,’ ‘Delicious
food was sold out in just a few minutes,’ ‘Please attend to sanitation’ and etc.
Where is the menu option? ‘Limited menu’ was the worst reason of student’s complaints. There are even different menus between our campuses. We compared the lunch menu that most students are using. Let’s look at the diet of November 11.

The above lists are Cheonan and Jukjeon campus’s diets on November 11 in order. In Jukjeon’s cafeteria there were six choices on the menu, but in Cheonan’s
cafeteria only three choices. However, in Cheonan campus, an average 4.5 days per week, almost every day the student’s cafeteria offers pork cutlet with changing
the source. That is, only two choices are different from yesterday. In addition to
even these three choices are repeated similarly every week. We reviewed the menu of Cheonan campus 60 times (35 times at lunch, 25 times at dinner) from October 4 to November 21. 27 pork cutlets (14 times handmade pork cutlet, 13 times spicy pork cutlet), 17 Bibimbap(boiled rice with assorted mixtures), six omelet, and five egg steak. As you see, the cafeteria’s menus are almost periodically repeated.

It is a natural result that students have complaint about a ‘Limited menu.’ So
DKH interviewed a student about the problem.

Q. What do you think of our student’s cafeteria?

“I think our cafeteria has many defects to improve. First of all, the biggest problem is limited menu. Because the student’s cafeteria is in school, it is easy to sell food from a bad menu. I think student’s cafeteria needs to compete with others.” (Yu-Jin Seo, Dept. of Public Administration, Freshman) “I’m satisfied with student’s cafeteria because of their low price. However, when I eat the food, it is not worth the price. Because I have no time to eat out, I usually eat pork cutlet. But don’t you think it is bad for my health if I eat same menu all the time? (Hee-Jin Kim, Dept. of English, Freshman) What about amounts and flavors of foods?

Survey of students who had eaten lunch at the student’s cafeteria showed many students complain that their foods were not delicious. Many students pointed out pork cutlet’s fishy source. To confirm these problems, I had a lunch at the student’s cafeteria. The amount of food was appropriate, but the taste was not good. The pork cutlet’s source and omelets’ source was the same, so there were no differences between the pork cutlet and the omelet. Besides there were few vegetables in the omelet and they also were not mixed with the rice.

The Student’s Cafeteria near our University. To compare with other school’s cafeteria, DKH visited Sangmyung University, Baekseok University, and we ate their foods to compare ours. Following lists are Sangmyung University, Baekseok University’s cafeteria menu in order. First, we visited Sangmyung University’s
cafeteria. Sangmyung University’s cafeteria was well received by students for
its menu, its prices and the flavors. We interviewed a student who ate lunch at
Sangmyung University cafeteria.

Q. What do you think of your student’s cafeteria?

“I usually eat ramen in our cafeteria. Ramen is the best menu. I love its price. I
like Bulgogi Ttukbaegi too. It has much meat and there is a large amount for one person. So I usually eat lunch in our school.” (Bo-Ram Jung, Dept. of Theatre,
Freshman) After visiting Sangmyung University, we visited Baekseok University’s cafeteria. Their menu was various. Lunch has ten kinds of foods from Korean food to a snack. We thought the food’s flavor and the amount was better than our university. We attempted to interview one student.

Q. What do you think of Baekseok University’s cafeteria?

“I frequently use our cafeteria. The biggest reason is it s far cheaper than other
restaurants. Like Seolleongtang and Kimchi stew which contain rice are inexpensive,
it is 2300 won. The most popular menu among the students is the ‘Combo
set.’ The combo set consists of pork cutlets and rice ball. There is enough food for two people, so two students usually eat one helping. But I think our student’s cafeteria sanitary is not good.” (Yun-Jeong Jeong, Dept. of Health Administration, Freshman) I ate the set menu which consisted of a rice ball and Tteokbokki. The foods are very good for the price. It contained many ingredients and tasted good. The amount was enough for two people. We could see that two people were eating one plate together.

The students of Cheonan campus have expressed their dissatisfaction with the
menu which has only three choices of low quality. But there is no one who tries to solve the problem. We tried to talk with the cafeteria manager about the student’s dissatisfaction for the menu. They just replied, ‘It can’t be helped.’ And they said that one menu, pork cutlet, is fixed because they had a consultation with school. Besides, they said that they have no plan to provide new menu because it is hard to suit everyone’s palate. Their answers are nonsense. Though the cafeteria exists for students, they do not accept the student’s complaints.
Jukjeon campus’ students also have a lot of complaints about Jukjeon’s cafeteria.
But the pen and paper is located there.

The cafeteria manager intended to collect feedback. So, students freely express their opinions about the menu and the cafeteria reflects those opinions. In the case of Cheonan campus, there is a system for monitoring the menu but the system exists in name only. Around the Cheonan campus, the surrounding
area is not developed commercially. So students want to receive a good
service on campus. But the cafeteria of the campus shows the bad effect of a monopoly. Now, the effort is needed for the cafeteria’s manager to communicate with students and raise the quality of food.
