The International Creative Writing Center (ICWC), an affiliate of Dankook University, hosted the ‘LA-Literature Academy’ at the Korean Education Center in Los Angeles from July 18th to 29th. This workshop was the first of its kind and its theme was ‘Loving Korean literature of creation and writing’. Attendees were Korean immigrants who studied the history of Korean literature and some were representative writers of Korean literature. Participants wrote their own literary work and received criticism from the group and editorial support.
The goal of the LA-Literature Academy was to shed some light on Korean literature throughout the world. The second lecture will be held next year and each year thereafter. Lee Si-yeong, the president of ICWC, said, “I’m glad to provide this opportunity to Korean immigrants who have lived in other countries. By doing this, I hope that they can get a sense of their homeland in a roundabout way. I also hope to see Korean literature spread overseas with these events acting as a springboard for its future proliferation,” she said.
