The 2011 Cheonan World Dance Festival brought the sound of Cheonan to the ears of visitors and showcased passionate performances for six days beginning on
September 28 in Arario Square at Cheonan Samgeori Park.
1.2 million spectators participated in the festival, which has been positioned as the country’s premier dance contest festival. There, visitors could see passion for dance embodied in this year's title ‘Let’s Dance in Cheonan’ and in the slogan ‘Encountering the world through dance! Let’s go to Cheonan.’ It was definitely a meaningful event for citizens to take part in and enjoy. Local festival manager Dong-Soon An said, “The 2011 Cheonan World Dance Festival is a huge boost for cultural exchange and regional affiliation of local citizens. The festival provides a great boost for the local regional economy, as well.” Meanwhile, Professor Eun-Yong Choi of Dankook University was awarded the grand prize in the general dance category with the title ‘Becoming as one through the exhilaration of captivating dance.’ She added, “I want the World Dance Festival to develop into a place for communication and harmony.” In addition to this year’s award, each year of the festival DKU entrants have earned a variety of prizes.
