On May 20, '2009 at 2p.m. the DKU English Public Speaking Contest' was held in Beob-Gyeong Gwan, classroom 209 with the title 'Dankook and I: My life in 2029.' This speech contest was hosted by Dankook University and sponsored by Pottery Lab, Ik-hun Lee Language Institution, ETS Korea and Oxford Univ. Press.
To start the contest, a professor Sung-Hun Kim gave the opening remarks instead of the president of Dankook University Ho-sung Chang. After introducing selected native english speaking professors as judges of the competition, the contest started. The '2009 DKU English Public Speaking Contest' began by dividing into 2 groups, the freshmen and sophomore team as well as the junior and senior team. Each group was composed of 15 participants and individuals were given 4 minutes. After 3-hours, the event ended.
All students who participated in the final of the English Speaking Contest received a prize for participation; among them the top 3 of each group were awarded ceramics made by the Dept. of Ceramic Arts, instead of trophies, as well as a certain amount of money. In the freshman and sophomore team, Hie-jin Lee (Political Science • 2), Yoo-na Chung (English • 2) and Jae-woo Chung(English • 1) were honored with awards. Also Sin-seong Park (English • 4), Ji-yeon Ryu (Polymer Science & Engineering • 4) and Sul Lee (English • 4) won prizes in the Junior and Senior team.
