Early last month, a video was spread quickly on the internet. The video was named 'The Subway Melee' by netizen. The content of the video is tussling between an old lady and a girl. Here is the situation. The old lady says, "Move your foot! My clothes would be dirty because of your foot." And the girl replies,¡¡“What do you want?" Because of the girl's rude reply, the old lady gets angry. She starts to make a disturbance grasping girl's hair. Nevertheless, passengers who are in the subway didn't stop and just kept looking at the situation. When the old lady became calm, the girl yelled "upload the video on the internet" to the people who recorded it. Since then, this video has spread significantly and netizen called the girl an 'Immoral woman.'

So, How about Dankookians' opinion? The Dankook Herald interviewed Dankookians about this video.

The result was that many people think the old lady made a mistake.

Hyun-Min Ahn (Dept. of English, Sophomore) said, "The old lady is older than the girl. And she made a mistake in the public place. I think it is the fault of her. Also, I think it was a problem that can be solved simply. The old lady doesn't need to make trouble in the subway. They would solve this problem quietly. No matter how much the girl behaved rudely, there's no justification to hit a person as she is older than the girl."

Yeon-Min So (Dept. of Korean Language and Literature, Freshman) who has three daughters answered the perspective of an adult.

"I heard the girl doesn't know about Korean culture as she is a overseas Korean. Even though she apologized to the old lady, she was scolded from the old lady. In addition, she caused the violence. It is enough to take the girl's side. Of course, they are both to blame. The girl didn't reply politely to the old lady. However, If adults want to be held in respect and deferred, they need to take the initiative and set an example."

On the otherside, there were some people who supported the old woman.

Gyeng- Soo Yang (Dept. of Molecular Biology, Sophomore) said that "There is a phrase that "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Like this, anyone foreigners or oversea Koreans, should understand Korean culture and behave in Korean culture. Korean culture puts emphasis on filial duty and respect elders based on Confucianism. Of course, there is a negative side which makes age seem like a right and had a power, but it is still good ethics. Many foreigners are praised for offering their seats and giving respect to their elders. However, nowadays young people follow these practices less and less." He felt sorry for modern Korean society which is forgetting the culture of respect for elders.

Jin-Woo, Yang (Dept. of Molecular Biology, Senior) thought differently about this incident. "In this video, the young girl is a contemptible person because she looks that naughty and she does not know how to respect elders. However, according to eyewitness, the girl apologized many times when the old woman was mad at her. Therefore she did not make a retort unconditionally as shown on the video. This means that you cannot and do not grasp all situation by only the short video. Other videos on internet are also same. it is wrong to criticize someone unconditionally like witch-hunts by only a video. Therefore it is too early to judge whose fault by only a short video or photo" He criticized the modern internet culture.

In addition, there are many opinions such as fault of the person who took the video and uploaded it on internet, the report made news of the incident and people in the video just looking on the fight.

On the internet, the two opinions, one is the old lady's fault and the other is teenage girl's fault, are still opposed sharply. However, it cannot be concluded which one is the witch. The old woman who broke the violence, the rude girl, the witnesses who just looked on or the people who have criticized them with only the short video, all of us may be witches.
