Scuba diving, rock climbing and paragliding all have one feature in common: you have to overcome your own self-limiting beliefs in order to challenge yourself and open yourself up to experiencing the world from a different perspective, whether it’s in the middle of sky, deep under the sea or high above on a cliff. However, these activities seem far out of reach for Dankookians (students of Dankook University) to explore simply because they lack information about how to do them. Thus, the Dankook Herald would like to recommend some locations nearby, for those who want to test their limits at these extreme adventure sports.

¡ã Mr. Yang is demonstrating how to rock climb at the center.

 Indoor rock climbing: Suji Climbing.

According to our interview with Yang Gwan-mo, an alumnus of DKU who’s been going to this center for 3 years, most climbing clubs have no indoor facilities, but Suji Climbing Center has both indoor and outdoor climbing courses. This make this center different from others, a benefit that helps students get used to climbing indoors, before they go out for actual rock climbing.

Group lessons: 140,000 won/ Private lessons: 200,000won per month

Merit(s): indoor and outdoor climbing course, informal atmosphere

Scuba Dive: Fun Fun Scuba Dive Academy.

Scuba diving in the ocean may seem very difficult for any university student, even if it’s on their bucket list. Moreover, even if you’ve tried it locally, you have to have an international diving license to dive from foreign countries. ‘Fun Fun Scuba Dive Academy’ could be the solution you need to solve both of these matters. The Academy offers real ocean practice providing participants with opportunities to experience real scuba diving in Korea.  Moreover, while many places provide limited diving experiences, they also offer courses that qualify students for an international scuba diving license.

Diving Experience: 68,000 won for one trip and after the initial experience you can negotiate prices for further lessons.

Merit(s): The license obtained here is accepted abroad.

 Paragliding: Korea Paragliding School

It’s fair to say that paragliding is one of the most challenging activities we can take on to get away from our stressful daily lives and in the process, feel free in the middle of the sky. However, to do this, we need specialized skills to stay alive while flying. Through the Korea Paragliding School, located in Youngin-si, which is rather close to Dankook University, you can learn the essentials of paragliding from seasoned professionals.

Two-seater flight: 70,000 won (weekdays) / 80,000 won (weekends) per course series.

Merit(s): The advantage is that you can enjoy paragliding activities nearby in Youngin.
