There is a song that has lyrics like "Movie is a pleasure of 10 million audiences but music is a pain of 40 million downloads." Yes, even though movie tickets are getting expensive, movie theaters are still crowded with a lot of people these days. We can divide people into 2 parts; who choose Korean movies or foreign movies. Korean movies do not yield the palm to foreign films which is rushing into domestic film market nowadays. To check this out, The Dankook Herald went to the movie theater in person.

¡ã Haeundae

We could look for the 'Real Power' of Korean films this summer. The heroes are 'Haeundae,' 'Raising the King Kong' and 'Take off.' 'Haeundae,' the first Korean human disaster movie, got great interest even before it was released as high as its budget, 10 billion dollars. Moreover, we can see how much effort they put in the movie through the fact that ‘2,000 days’ was spent to complete this movie. Additionally, computer graphic (CG) in ‘Haeundae’ was on the hot issue because domestic CG team was collaborated with American famous CG company which made movies, 'Perfect Strom' and 'Tomorrow.' The leader of CG maker Sung-ho Jang said "Especially, you can never find in any foreign movies like the CG in our movie." Because most of overseas films prefer dark night to daytime when is easier to make. And another reason this movie loved for a long time is that it is based on our ordinary not brilliant life. Je-gyun Yoon, the director of ‘Haeundae’, revealed “That’s the biggest difference with other foreign disaster movies.”

‘Raising the King Kong’ and ‘Take off’ are very similar in many ways. To summarize the similarities in 3 points, they are based on the unpopular sports event as well as true story. In addition, two of them were on the box-office just like a saying

‘sports movies are always guaranteed success.’ The only difference between them is the theme of movies, weight lifting and ski jumping. Both of them are not familiar sports for Koreans yet but athletes of them are trying their best as much as other famous sports athletes do. That’s why audience cannot help crying while watching the movies with feeling sorry for them about people were indifferent to unpopular sports before.

Likewise Korean movies touch the audiences’ heart in a different ways of foreign films do. Our movies have bright future even if there is thousands of floating overseas films with high CG technique because what giving impression to audiences is not only good computer graphic but the trivial life found in our routine. More Korean movies are sold, more bright economy will come to us.
