Restaurants are pretty shaken by soaring prices. It is inevitable that restaurants where are near the school raise its food prices. Due to light purse, most students use student cafeteria where they can eat heartily at reasonable prices. Do they use our student cafeteria with satisfaction? There are many grumbles among dankookians in diversity, flavor, and price. The side dishes are poor in quality and same menus are repeated by reason of cost. What about other universities placed in a difficult situation like us? You know, we already visited three private universities in the last issue. In this issue, we visit three national universities.

Seoul National University(SNU) - The place which offers various menus and nutritional balance to students

Because campus size is larger than others, some cafeterias are arranged throughout the campus. Among them, we use cafeteria of student hall where many students use. The place is not large but thanks to white interior design, there seems to be bright, clean, and large. Students could have a choice of three foods in lunch time. Among them, we choose tray noodles. It is very delicious and seasoning is not much strong. Also side dishes are various. My food's cost is 3,000won. The prices are about 1,700 won to 3,000 won according to the kinds of food. This shows their prices are lower than ours. From monthly menu, we could know that cafeteria supplies various foods each week. Also cafeteria looks very sanitary because cafeteria staff use hygiene costume and the inside of kitchen is clean. It is the feature of SNU cafeteria that they do not use much instant food and students can eat nutritional food at reasonable prices.

Seoul National University of Education(SNUE) - The place which offers meals to students in pleasant surroundings

Student cafeteria was located on the first floor of student hall and it was a small cafeteria unlike other universities. It seemed that it is impracticable to accommodate many students but inside of the cafeteria was very clean not like old building. Inside of the kitchen was open so students could see inside from the outside. Kitchen was neat enough to eat with an easy mind. Cafeteria employees were care about their clean clothes but there were few delicious food to eat. Also, their menus are not diverse like our university. Just we could feel tasty like foods mother used to cook at home. Even if its cafeteria has no character because of lack of variety of menus, its cafeteria has a comparative advantage in terms of taste and price.

Korea National Sports University(KNSU) - The place which offers meal fitted for athletes

When I entered the cafeteria, I could see the inside in one sight. After buying the ticket, I came to the line for getting my meal. The water fountain and the standing line was on a straight line which was convenient than our cafeteria. I could get myself as many foods as I want except for the rice and stir fried sausage which seemed to be most popular but they gave me enough quantity and added if I want more so it seemed the quantity of meal will not be a problem. However, generally the food was salty so I had to drink up cups of water and it still remained after I finished my lunch. The menu was basic meal(Baekban), donkatsu, and omelet but most students seemed that they prefer basic meal. Also, after 2.p.m. when the lunch time is over, they sell various foods based on flour and noodles such as ramen(instant noodles), offering more diversity. However, the cheapest menu, ramen starts at 2,500 won, so generally it was expensive.

As DKH looked upon those three national universities' student cafeterias, It is probably their cafeterias are run by food makers like us. However, all the three cafeterias were perfectly sanitized and two of them were widely open so anyone can see the inside where foods are cooked. SNU and KNSU had various menus while our student cafeteria only has a few menus which rotate almost every week. Compared with ours, those national universities sought foods at almost similar or relatively cheap price but had various menus and favorable tastes. When our cafeteria come up with many new menus for widening students' choice, the fulfillment of dankookians' satisfactions would be increased.
