The four friends, Sungkyun, Sogang, Hongik and Dankook met each other. They could not stop talking and laughing as they haven't met for a long time. Sungkyun, one of them said "Hey, do you guys know that Samsung supports my university? So, my university is developing rapidly." And then Sogang showed off that "Development of university is not an only condition of good university. If students don't study hard, it's nothing! Good university is the place where students study hard. Even the library in my university is full during the vacations." And then Hongik who listened to Sogang said that "Oh Jesus, life is just once!¡¡Enjoy the life. Draw pictures, listen to music and dance whatever you want. Oh, hey! There is a good bakery near my university. Would you like to go to the bakery together?" They could not stop their university boasts. Their talking was continued. At the moment, Hongik asked Dankook "How about you? How is your university?" Dankook's head was dazed.

When someone asks you this question, can you proudly say that "Dankook University is like this!"? Or will you be a loss for words like Dankook? If you hesitate like Dankook, you do not have to worry anymore. Dankook Herald investigated some achievements of Dankook University (DKU) thoroughly for Dankookians.

* Before looking at achievements of Dankook University(DKU)

Dankook Herald investigated some simple surveys to 100 of Jukjeon and Cheonan Students. The surveys were for 5 achievements we will introduce shortly. And it was investigated by asking 'Do you know these DKU's achievements?' The result of investigation is placed under an each title.

¡ã A statue of Lady Hyedaong Hee-Jae Cho

¨ç Built by people who made an effort for the independence movement, DKU

(60% of Jukjeon, 54% of Cheonan students responded they know those reasons.)

When you look around the campus either Jukjeon or Cheonan, you can see two statues if you are a DKU students. That is the statue of Lady Hyedang Cho and Mr. Hyoung Chang who established DKU. In the past, these two establishers finely worked for the independence movement. Mr. Hyoung Chang stopped his studying in 1911 and he endeavored for independence movement at China and Manju for 30 years, until 1946. Lady Hyedang Cho also supported money to Mr. Hyoung Chang and she had much interest at education project. These two people realized that the most important business after the independence is the education project. So they became focus at the education business only. As a result, it led to establish 'The first official four-year private college in Korea.' That is your school, Dankook University. DKU was established with the first racial private school after the independence and it was steadily developed even though it was operated by racial fund only. The meaning of succeeding the Dankoon's humanitarianism spirit, DAN And the meaning of being a patriot, KOOK. Likewise, DKU's establishment was started unusually.

¨è Leader of the Winter Olympic Games, Dankookian

(78% of Jukjeon, 82% of Cheonan students responded they know those reasons.)

DKU trained long and short track speed skating players and made them become at world class level. As you can see in the list, we have players starting Ki-hoon Kim (graduated Dept. of Business Administration) who won four gold medals in the past 1998 Calgary, 1992 Albertville, 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games. And Sun-Yu Jin (Dept. of Physical Education) who entered DKU after winning three gold medals at 2006 Torino Winter Olympic Game. And finally the last, Jung-Su Lee (Dept. of Physical Education) who won two gold medals at recent 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Game. In addition, numerous Dankookians, Joon-Ho Lee, Ji-Soo Mo, Jae-Kun Song, Suk-Woo Song, Se-Jong Oh and etc won the gold medals in the past times. Likewise, Dankookians did a great effort steadily and limitlessly enough to call a name of 'The leader of Winter Olympic Games.' If Dankookians constantly do their best, they will get proud results for us at 2014 Russia Sochi Winter Olympic Game.

¡ã Hanhandae Sajeon

¨é The world's largest Chinese character dictionary, 'Hanhandae sajeon'

(48% of Jukjeon, 34% of Cheonan students responded they know those reasons.)

'Dictionary of Chinese characters Korean use Hanhandae sajeon' written by DKU Institute of Oriental Studies is the largest Chinese character dictionary in the world. The Institute of oriental studies started to write the dictionary in 1978. And after 30 years, on June 28, 2008, they finished the work. This dictionary is constituted by total 16 books, 55,000 letters and 450,000 words. It is much more than Japanese dictionary 'Dai Kan-Wa jiten.' (Total 13 books, 49,000 letters and 390,000 words) Also, China which heard this news guarded Korea to keep their main seat of Chinese characters. Like this 'Hanhandae sajeon' became Korean boast, over Dankook University. DKU student Jun-in Yang (Dept. of communication in Jukjeon campus) said about the dictionary "My university did a great job like the 'Hanhandae sajeon' work and I am so proud of what I am a DKU student."

¨êInstitute of Oriental Studies

(66% of Jukjeon, 18% of Cheonan students responded they know those reasons.)

Dankook University the Institute of Oriental Studies researches on Korean culture and oriental culture and was founded by ex-president of DKU, Jang Chung-Sik. Institute of Oriental Studies has written many publications such as 'The Journal of Oriental studies, Chun Ja Moon' and 'The theory and problem of Korean classic literature' since foundation. Now, The Institute of Oriental Studies is working to make digital version of 'Hanhandae sajeon' which is the greatest achievement of the Institute of Oriental Studies. If they complete the digital version of 'Hanhandae sajeon,' it will be also great achievement in the world. Institute of Oriental Studies still has been working on publications and conference for oriental studies and it can be called DKU's achievements maker.

¡ã ¨éSeok Juseon Memorial Museum

¨ëSeok Juseon Memorial Museum

(74% of Jukjeon, 8% of Cheonan students responded they know those reasons.)

In 1981, Seok Juseon Memorial Museum was build by Seok Juseon who was the pioneer of Korean clothes history studies and donated 3,365 folk legacies to DKU. There are many antiquities such as King Gojong's Korean traditional jacket, Heungseon Daewongun's Korean traditional clothes, a spouse of King Gwanghaegun's Korean traditional jacket and etc in the museum. Especially, the museum has mummy 'Danwong' which is first found mummy in Korea. Mummy 'Danwong' is also a 6 years old child mummy which is preserved for 350 years and the world's first mummy which died by tuberculosis and viral hepatitis. Seok Juseon Memorial Museum is one of the boasts in DKU. Seok Juseon Momorial Museum is always near Dankookians but there are many Dankookians who haven't visited this museum or even don't know the Seok Juseon Momorial Museum itself. So from now on, I hope you to take care of Seok Juseon Momorial Museum if you are a Dankookian.

After searching the survey results, you may realize that students' interest toward DKU was extremely low. Especially, compared to Jukjeon students, Cheonan students terribly don't know about The Institute of Oriental Studies and Seok Juseon Memorial Museum which is placed in Jukjeon campus. I hope these students become interested at their school, DKU through reading this article. University students' busy daily routine. Studying school works to get good credits, getting SPEC for employment, outdoor activities for various experiences. However, how about sparring your busy time just about 10 or at least 5 minutes to DKU and loving your own school
